Four Ports Marine began as a cooperative in 1979 building wooden fishing boats, operating from an old church building in the village of Morell. In the early 1980's they began building a 40 ft. fiberglass boat followed by a 42 ft fiberglass boat in in the mid 1980s and finally a similar 44 ft boat beginning in the early 1990's. In 1994 the cooperative moved to a new facility at their current location and expanded the manufacturing facility within a year. Rob Barry took over the operation in 2001 as a private enterprise.

The cooperative began as a service to the four area fishing ports of Morell (Red Head), Naufrage, Savage Harbour and Tracadie. Hence the name "Four Ports Marine".
